Holi (होली), is a Hindu religious festival celebrated in early Spring. Holi is also known as the Festival of Colors. It is primarily observed in India and countries with large followers of Hinduism, such as Nepal, Suriname, Malaysia, Guyana, South Africa, Trinidad, United Kingdom, United States, Mauritius, and Fiji.
Leaving aside its religious origins, Holi has some similarities with Easter. Both festivals are celebrated in early Spring. Both festivals have themes of vibrant colors. Both festivals are eagerly looked forward to by children.
But those similarities breakdown. While Easter involves coloring eggs, Holi is celebrated by coloring people. Easter egg hunt is a children only event, Holi is an event for everyone and for all age groups. Easter is celebrated by dressing in your best. You’d not be advised to come to a Holi celebration in your best.
